RAMS WOMEN CROWNED ARRIVE ALIVE PREMIERS AND GRAND FINAL CHAMPIONS
The Macarthur Rams Women 1st Grade team capped off a great year when they defeated NWS Koalas 2-1 to win the 2008 Arrive Alive Women's Premier League Grand Final.
The girls repeated their efforts from last season by also being crowned the 2008 Arrive Alive Women's Premier League Premiers for topping the league ladder after 21 rounds of competition.
To achieve the double for two seasons running is a remarkable achievement by the whole squad. Coach Matt Turvey should also be congratulated on his efforts in marshalling the troops for season 2008.
The Grand Final result was a typical performance by the Rams. Gutsy, enterprising, dazzling, tough and exhilarating all wrapped into one highly spectacular game.
The Koalas took the lead in the 26 th minute through an Alicia Cavanagh goal. The Koalas went in at half-time with a 1-0 lead. Typically the Rams stepped up a gear in the second half with Renee Cartwright and Kylie Ledbrook just missing chances. However, in the 53 rd minute the Rams were rewarded with a game equalising goal to Kylie Ledbrook.
The Rams spirit and great attitude combined with enterprising play was now in full motion. In the 70 th minute a Renee Cartwright strike put the Rams in front 2-1.
The Rams continually pressed their opponents creating a few chances through some great play. When the referee blew full-time the Rams ended up victorious 2-1. Player of the Match went to Rams midfielder Kylie Ledbrook and she didn't receive a yellow card to boot!!!!
Both teams also deserve to be congratulated on the way they played the game and also their consistent performances throughout the year.
At the presentation after the match both captains showed a bit of class by complementing one another's teams. Even though both teams have a keen rivalry they also have plenty of respect for one another.
See you in 2009!
